Created by the award-winning designer Sebastian Herkner; Zencha the latest bathroom series from Duravit, pays homage to more traditional forms of craftsmanship. Herkner is something of an artisan, interested in trades such as glassblowing, woodcarving, and basket-weaving, when crafting his designs, he combines these traditional methods with new technologies and modern-day design.
Zencha is an exquisitely balanced design that evokes the senses not only with its visual appearance but the tactile surfaces he has created, with its balanced shapes, colours, and materials it appeals to all our senses. Sebastian took his inspiration for the design from the mindful methods used in Japanese rituals and their skilled and intricate craftmanship. A key element was the hand-made ceramic teacups he discovered in Japan, he cleverly interpreted their gentle, organic forms, into organically shaped sanitary objects, and minimalistic and modular furniture.
This is Herkner’s first bathroom collection, and it comes as no surprise that one of the key pieces is the striking freestanding bath, gently rounded and crafted to create the feeling you are entering a pool. Its softly curved edges, are manufactured from DuraSolid®, giving it a pleasantly warm feel and elegant matt aesthetic.
The basins are manufactured from DuraCeram®, which allowed the designer to create above-counter basins that have an extremely thin rim thickness yet are still robust and extremely easy to care for.
The straight-lined design of the furniture creates an intriguing contrast to the organic sanitary objects and complements the collection’s subtle material and colour concept. The Zencha furniture collection is designed in a modular fashion and can be arranged in a variety of ways, i.e., open shelves or drawers with push-open and self-closing technology.
When combined with the above-counter basin, they become a beautiful centrepiece in the bathroom. As a storage area for everyday (bathroom) items, they give structure to the room and are available in the subtle colours White Super Matt, Taupe Super Matt, and Graphite Super Matt.
Herkner’s instinct for colours, materials, and textures, can be seen in this element of the collection, his designs always have a certain twist – whether artfully woven outdoor furniture, mouth-blown side tables, or handwoven carpets. Zencha is no exception the crafted cabinet fronts are offered in a number of options; the Natural Oak and Oak Black produce a warm and tactile effect, whilst white plate glass or black textured glass introduce a degree of tactile elegance into the bathroom.
The Zencha collection combines delicate shapes with high-quality, sustainable materials such as PEFC-certified woods. It comes in a wide range of variants and its shapes, colours, materials, measurements, and equipment options can be configured for various interior design settings.
