Noli Katajanokka II is a new hotel located in close proximity to downtown Helsinki, Finland. The hotel opened on 1st of October 2023 after a full renovation of its original 1929 wholesale building that served the port area. Noli Katajanokka II is located in a historic warehouse district near Allas Sea Pool and the bustling restaurants of Kanavaranta.
The interior architecture by Studio Joanna Laajisto nods to the building´s original year of construction by drawing conceptual inspiration from the art deco period. With soft colour palette of neutrals and subtle blue and green tones, it also links to the seaport neighbourhood and the homely atmosphere that all the Noli hotels are offering. The triptych art piece in the hotel living room lobby is commissioned from establish Helsinki based artist Miikka Vaskola and the smaller piece in the common kitchen is by another Helsinki based artists Heidi Lampenius. All the furniture pieces and textiles are carefully selected to create an eclectic yet comforting atmosphere throughout the hotel.
“This has been a very interesting project of total renovation and conversion of an old building. It has required very intensive coordination from our team with all the other designers from MEP to the architects and consultants. In addition to that the constant communication and team work with the construction site was an essential part of the projects success. We couldn’t be happier with the end result which came in time and in budget”, said Joanna Laajisto, the founder and lead designer of Studio Joanna Laajisto.
