The luxurious texture and durability of Newhey Carpets‘ Colortec+ Twist & Velvet carpet has resulted in a major order as part of an extensive design programme across several Brewers Fayre new-build sites. Newhey worked with Sheffield-based architectural and interior design practice, Arch-e-tech Design, to create designs that were distinguished from traditional pub carpets.
Specified by Arch-e-tech Design on behalf of Whitbread Hotels, two bespoke designs using six colours were produced, with Newhey’s unique Twist & Velvet pile yarn adding subtle depth and texture. Meeting the durability requirements of a host of public areas – such as pubs, hotels, nightclubs and restaurants – 4500m² of Colortec+
Twist & Velvet carpet with a 1600grm specification has been manufactured for various Brewers Fayre main bar and dining areas.
Newhey’s business development manager, Nina Heins, comments: “The original brief from Whitbread was to come up with something different to a traditional pub carpet, which is why our Twist & Velvet product was chosen. Twist & Velvet has been used extensively, to great effect, on many of our hotel projects – although Brewers Fayre is the first to embrace the product for a mainstream restaurant/bar concept.
“The use of mixed pile yarns allows texture as well as pattern and colour to be added to the design. A very sculptured, almost hand-carved appearance, can be created, along with a subtle texture which would be very hard to achieve with just a velvet pile alone.”
Alison Brown, Arch-e-tech spokesperson, adds: “This unusual textural effect creating depth in the design, along with Newhey’s proactive and responsive approach to achieving a design solution, was a key driver in our product selection.”
