Controlling water with digital showers

In modern design, the bathroom has been transformed from a predominantly functional space into one of the most highly-regarded rooms in a hotel – providing a space of cleansing and renewal, as well as of respite and relaxation.

Bathroom trends have evolved over the years to see shower enclosures, wet rooms and the inclusion of media – such as radio and TV – being incorporated into the space. One new innovation from Crosswater is the development of digital showers, which offers an elevated level of control over the water used.

What is the Crosswater range?
Crosswater provides a series of controls that allow the user to manage the water in a number of ways that conventional showers do not. The range consists of the following:
“¢ Solo – a single control for temperature
“¢ Duo – a two-way control for temperature and water flow
“¢ Elite – a two-way control fitted with visual display and the ability for app synchronisation

The controls allow the user to precisely adjust the temperature of a shower or bath. The range has the ability to store individual temperature settings for up to three people.

Other functions on the Duo and Elite models include the ability to adjust flow rates to individual tastes – an innovation geared largely towards comfort. The temperature and water flow are visualised by flashing lights on the device, giving it its digital aesthetic. Once the desired temperature or water flow is reached, the flashing light stops.

How does it work?
The range works by directing the hot and cold water inputs through a processor. A cable to the control switches in the shower or by the bath is connected to the processor, as are the outlets to any shower heads or bath fillers.

The processor can be installed either on a wall or in a loft. The cable to the controls can be up to 6m long, and the processor needs to be placed in an accessible area for any maintenance or adjustment.

Does the range work well aesthetically?
The design of the digital water controls is minimalistic, and looks unobtrusive when flush to a wall in a shower enclosure. The processors are easily mounted in a loft or on a wall, meaning that a sleek, high-tech aesthetic is easily achievable. The touch-sensitive controls help achieve this look.

Does the range work well functionally?
The range delivers a level of control that regular shower or bath controls lack. The level of precision can be combined with the ability to control the water flow on the Duo and Elite models, providing users with a customised shower suited to their preferences.

The introduction of wireless controls allow the user to set their desired water temperature and flow from another room. It is also possible to operate the controls using a smartphone app.
