Located in the tourist resort of Poiana Brasov,”Romania, the Silver Mountain Resort has used a combination of natural surfacing and new generation material, Hi-Macs, to create a harmonious interplay between nature and luxury.
Nuca Studio, an architecture and design studio with excellent references in”Romania, was chosen to lead the project, with architect, Robert Marin, as project leader. Robert’s main intention was to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere with an elegant ambiance, and so he opted to make use of both natural materials such as wood and stone, as well as new generation material, Hi-Macs Natural Acrylic Stone.
One of the main focal points of the design is the Loft bar, which incorporates a number of landscape features in order to forge a connection between the interior and exterior.
The countertop is formed from Hi-Macs in”Opal, while the edges are Hi-Macs in Alpine White. The translucent Opal was engraved on the inside with the sponsor’s logo, and is LED-illuminated.
As Hi-Macs Natural Acrylic Stone allows for invisible joints, the countertop is sheer and fluid, contrasting with the wooden end-pieces and striking just the right balance of aesthetic appeal, and the required levels of functionality.
Hi-Macs was also used within the resort’s stylish nightclub, The Rock. Offering RGB illumination, the Lucent range complements the dynamic use of light within the space. In addition to its monolithic appearance, the material’s thermoforming property allowed the four ends of the bar to be moulded into a gentle curve.
The metal structure supporting the bar has been artfully integrated into its design, and can be seen as a shadow through the translucent countertop. The barfronts are made of water-based matt painted MDF – an extramatt supercoat – with low environmental impact and a high resistance to mechanical action. The curved fronts of the bar are constructed from wood and formed in a vacuum, and are also painted in extramatt supercoat.
Particularly well suited to restaurant and bar environments such as these, Hi-Macs is a deeply ecological material, that is easy to maintain, allows for for seamless joints, and can even be three-dimensionally moulded.
The use of Hi-Macs Natural Acrylic Stone here ensured that the architect’s nature-inspired vision was realised, and that a refined and ecological design that fits perfectly into the environment was accomplished.
