Masterminded by renowned restaurateur, Aqua Restaurant Group‘s founder and creative director, David Yeo, Hutong at The Shard offers a fine-dining experience with new heights. Offering panoramic views from Level 33 of Western Europe’s tallest building, the 130-cover restaurant is the first Hutong venue located outside of its native Hong Kong.
Inspired by the hutongs or alleyways that criss-crossed across old Beijing, Hutong at The Shard merges the traditions of Northern China with a striking modern twist. The dramatic interior has been conceptualised in detail by David Yeo.
Traditional Chinese red lanterns and aesthetic hand-carved wood-panelled Moon Gates adorn the space. A wall of tiled tea bricks – made from compressed dried Chinese tea – and vintage tea canisters from the 1940s celebrate the link between China and London. David Yeo’s vision extends to the table settings, with an aesthetic collection of crockery and tableware all made exclusively for Hutong.
David is recognised as one of Hong Kong’s most prominent restaurateurs. Following his training and practice as a lawyer, David began his second career with the opening of a simple 60-cover restaurant in 2000, and has since launched more than 17 high-end restaurants. Precise attention to detail shapes David’s philosophy as a restaurateur, resulting in interiors that complement the high standard of cuisine on offer.
