Meliá Hotels International has signed a contract to manage Meliá Paulista ahead of this year’s FIFA World Cup. Due to open in March, the hotel is located on the Avenida Paulista in São Paulo, one of the most prominent business districts in Latin America. Meliá already manages 14 hotels in Brazil, and aims to increase its number more than 20 properties before the 2016 Olympics.
With a central location that makes it ideal for business and leisure travellers, Meliá Paulista will offer 400 stylish suites and apartments, a contemporary restaurant and bar, seven meeting rooms, three events and convention rooms and a gym.
As well as Sao Paulo – where Meliá already has a dozen hotels under its Tryp by Wyndham and Meliá brands – the company is present in Brasilia and Angra dos Reis. In 2016 – the year of the Brazilian Olympics – Meliá expects to have several new hotels open in destinations such as Rio de Janeiro, Recife, Belo Horizonte and Pernambuco.
Meliá Hotels International saw significant strength in Latin America last year – mainly in the urban hotel segment – in countries such as Chile, Peru, Venezuela and Brazil. In Brazil, revenues in the MICE (meetings, incentives , conferences and events) segment increased by 16% in 2012 – a figure which is expected to double this year.
