Soho House has launched SOHO WORKS, Shoreditch – the first of an international network of 24/7 workspaces designed for the creative industries. Humanscale, a world leader in ergonomic furniture solutions, has been selected as the perfect provider of products for this stunning space.
Located in East London’s iconic Tea Building, SOHO Works launched at the end of 2015 and is open to both Soho House members and non-members. The concept was created for individuals and businesses that want a dedicated workspace but with the Soho House design ethos, functionality, service and attention to detail.
The 16,000 square foot layout hosts 23 private studies, each accommodating one to ten people with multiple banks of shared desks and a variety of sitting room spaces for touch down working.
London has the biggest concentration of co-working space in the world, with 17% of tenants working in the creative industries. This sector needs spaces that are design savvy, comfortable, well equipped and in key locations with a good selection of bars and restaurants.
SOHO WORKS Shoreditch members will share the space with other like-minded businesses, providing a creative support network around them. Shoreditch is the first of four workspaces with LA, Istanbul and New York sites planned for the coming year.
The space has been designed by Soho House & Co’s in-house design team, and is a mixture of vintage and contemporary furnishings. Nineteenth century Victorian dining room tables and brass mid-century chandeliers sit beside bespoke Humanscale ergonomic furniture, which provides a carefully curated yet fully functional working environment.
Humanscale’s range of intuitive work tools were designed to be used together, forming the ultimate workstation. Combining ergonomics expertise with innovative design, its products adjust to the user, making work more comfortable and complementing any work style. A fully ergonomic workstation promotes healthy posture and lowers the risk of injury.
The Float desk by Humanscale was specified due to its sharp engineering and unique counterbalance design, which allows the desk to be raised and lowered almost instantly and effortlessly with one hand. This enables the user to alternate between siting and standing whilst working.
The Freedom task chair was created by Niels Diffrient and is the winner of more than 10 design awards. Described by The New York Times as “the gold standard in office seating”, the design uses the law of physics and the sitter’s body weight to provide instant, custom support. The Remix fabric by Kvadrat has been used in blues and purples uniquely for SOHO WORKS.
Humanscale’s Element Disc task light brings together advanced technology and optimal functionality. An innovative and adjustable LED desk lamp, the Element Disc offers seven levels of brightness with an effortless pinch of the light head. It also features a PIR occupancy sensor that turns the unit on or off when the user enters or leaves the area.
