Martha Sturdy‘s hand-worked pieces – made from salvaged wood, resin, and metals – are evocative of the Pacific Northwest landscapes that surround her Pemberton farm studio in British Columbia. The designer’s observations of the way in which the movement of wind, water and ground sculpt the environment during the winter months, often inform her dark, pared-down aesthetic.
Martha’s prolific body of work spans furniture, sculpture, and design inspired by the scale and strength of nature on the West Coast. From spun metal works inspired by the calm waters of Capilano Lake, and charred stools reminiscent of the shadowy forest surrounding Pemberton, to orbital lights and metal spheres, Martha’s products are illustrative of a constant creative dialogue with the powerful landscapes in which she designs and works.
With her resin pieces, Martha emulates the intensity of her landscaping efforts on the farm by working layer after layer to withdraw, move or surrender. Durable as they are elegant, Martha’s resin collections are available in dual pour and limited colour collections.
