The Jones Family Project is a new independent restaurant and bar in the thriving Shoreditch area of London. Designed by the designLSM team, the venue is already receiving rave reviews since opening.
Founded by a group of friends, the Jones Family Project aims to offer its Shoreditch clientele the best food, drink and good times. The ground floor bar and cafe is open from breakfast to midnight and the basement level restaurant offers set lunches, evening al la carte dining and weekend brunches.
Located on Great Eastern Street in an old building with a new shopfront, the 600m2 site was a shell when acquired by the client and so required complete renovation, including the addition of a new staircase leading to the basement level.
designLSM’s interior design team really enjoyed working with this inventive client, creating innovative and quirky spaces over the two floors.
On the ground floor designLSM’s favourite features are the office in the window; one of a series of huts fitted out with its own printer and pinboard for local workers. The cafe transforms from day to night through clever use of rotating shelf units in the back bar, stocking coffees during the day, then rotating to display alcohols at night.
A fairy-lit tree in the centre of the space and a carpet painted onto the floor all contribute to this transformative effect, creating an inviting and comfortable daytime environment for local workers and shoppers, and entertaining cocktail bar in the evening.
In the basement level restaurant, the designLSM team created a series of spaces to cater for all diners, from intimate nooks within the arches to a second fairy-lit tree at the central space that softens and brings warmth to a space with no natural light. There is also a playful stage set dining area – currently set up as granny’s 1970’s living room, which will change in theme every month or so.
Proprietor, Duncan Watts, says of his new restaurant: “We thoroughly enjoyed working with designLSM on our new project in Shoreditch. Their unique visual-inspired approach allowed us to convert our ideas into reality and create a coherent yet diverse space for our customers to enjoy.”
