Aero Light’s pioneering vanity downlight solution

Interior design and lighting consultants always have a headache when talking about hotel bathroom lighting design, states Aero Light, a well-known hospitality architectural lighting brand in Asia: “We all know, ladies naturally lean close to the mirror when they need to apply detailed make-up, as do gentlemen when they shave.

“However, a normal downlight is not always the most effective lighting for this function. When the guest leans towards the mirror, lighting from the ceiling can be blocked by the head, resulting in poor lighting on the face. This can be frustrating for guests if they do not have enough light to see properly when applying make-up, also impacting their mood or confidence levels.

“Traditional solutions can include the installation of wall sconces on both sides of the mirror. However, other headaches can often follow. If a protruding decorative wall light is installed, more time is spent on cleaning. Mirror-flushed light boxes are neat and tidy, but there can be access problems when it comes to maintenance. The trend in luxury hotel suites is to have a double basin and a double wide mirror, and in this scenario the two wall lights can sit too far away from each other to be fully functional.

“Some hotels have installed foldable, wall-mounted magnifying mirrors to please the guests, but they are hard to keep in shape. After using for a few months, such attachments can become loose or less able to hold their required position.”

Mr Sky, the founder of Aero Light, continues: “We have heard so many complaints about bathroom vanity lights from lighting designers and hotel operators. So, two years ago, we decided to develop an innovative vanity downlight. Our goal was to make a ceiling-recessed vanity downlight that would provide enough light for the user without additional wall sconces.

“It seemed like an impossible task. After dozens of failed attempts, we were so excited that we finally made it. With the ingenious Aero Vanity Downlight installed in front of the mirror, the closer to the mirror you are, the brighter the face appears – ladies can easily draw on the most delicate eyeliner, and men will leave cleanly shaved. All hoteliers and lighting designers who have visited the Aero Experience Center in Singapore were excited when they experienced the magic of the new Aero Vanity Downlight. It’s the perfect vanity downlight for bathrooms. They can’t wait to have it for their next hotel project.”
