Aluminium, plastic, melamine and natural solid wood are tried and tested edging materials. Today the furniture industry is looking for more exotic materials to help generate new ideas for interior design, such as high gloss edgings. The natural progression from these gleaming materials, and a favoured classic at the same time, is glass.
Glass is repeatedly found in mounting plate and metal frame applications. Its elegant look enhances table tops and cabinet and drawer fronts, particularly in combination with high gloss surfaces. But as lustrous and shiny as this material is, its weight and delicateness make it particularly challenging to work with. Are there any alternative solutions without losing that special glass look?
Ostermann has a high-quality solution that is available right away – the ingenious 3D acrylic edging with a deceptively-real, glazed appearance. This edging is made from two decors placed in parallel producing typical glass shine in pastel blue oxide, white, light-grey, beige or black as well as stainless steel.
Eye-catching colours of signal red and Bordeaux are also available in Ostermann’s extensive range. The decors are embossed on the rear side of the acrylic carrier material and so the resulting transparency gives these edgings an astounding, spatial, depth effect with the characteristics of glass being perfectly imitated.
If this edging is then combined with a matching, coloured, high gloss panel, an impressive effect is created – that of a solid glass plate placed on a metallic support material.
This remarkable alternative not only looks elegant, it also has many advantages over the original. It may shimmer like glass but the plate is shatter-proof and is also suitable for use in domestic environments. It also does not add any weight to the furniture item – unlike real glass – and this also means that special weight-bearing fittings are no longer required to be fixed to cabinet fronts.
Suitable for various Egger and Thermopal gloss boards, Ostermann offers five wood colours in this attractive wood and stainless-steel appearance. The wood decors which are provided are Macassar, Macassar noble, Merano, Dark and Light Olive.
In combination with the matching gloss boards, these stepped look edgings give the impression of a solid wood panel resting on a metallic base. These layered edgings are usually kept in stock in 150m rolls and in 23 x 1mm. As standard for Ostermann, deliveries can be made of lengths from one metre and above.
