A Mapei system has been successfully incorporated as part of a refurbishment programme at the world-famous Royal Albert Hall, London.
Designed by Originate Architects, the refurbishment process included repair and preparation of the existing substrate and installation of 300m² of Victorian Encaustic tiles. On behalf of main contractor, 8build, Classic Formai refurbished flooring in the main door 12 entrance, the box office and bar area.
Prior to the tile installation, a fast-drying screed containing Mapei Topcem hydraulic binder was laid onto a slurry coat containing Mapei Planicrete. The addition of Mapei’s anti-fracture membrane, Mapei Mapetex, alleviated the stresses of high footfall and protected against potential defects to the restored floor finish. This was fixed directly to the new screed with the high-performance adhesive system, Mapei Keraquick, incorporating Latex Plus flexible additive.
Mapei Keraflex Maxi S1 adhesive, with low-dust properties, was specified for bonding the encaustic tiles. Fast-drying, water-repellent and anti-mould Mapei Ultracolor Plus grout was then applied to the tile joints.
