Located in the up-and-coming area of Shahdara, east of New Delhi, the Kempinski Ambience Hotel is the largest convention centre in Northern India. The hotel comprises 480 luxury guest rooms, five restaurants, two swimming pools, a luxury spa and fitness area.
Specialist luxury design firm, Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA), has brought a fresh approach with contemporary transitional fashions accented with subtle touches of re-interpreted Indian elements.
Traditional patterns and customary Indian architectural details are spread throughout the property. The graphic elements of the main exterior facade are incorporated within the interior features of the hotel to create a unifying thread throughout the space.
“Because the Kempinski Ambience is part of a mixed use space, we wanted to create a very strong and unifying feeling throughout the property,” says David T’Kint, senior designer at HBA. “By looking to India’s rich culture and history we were able to create a space that is both organic to its location and in line with the standards of the global luxury traveller.”
HBA utilised an elegant and calm colour palette to suit the needs of the hotel’s clientele. Warm beiges and browns are accented by splashes of rich tones – such as indigo blue, saffron yellow and vibrant reds. Cultural references are underlined by an art collection that is comprised of works by contemporary Indian artists.
In addition to the lobbies on each side of the building, the property houses five restaurants – including a stylish yet low-key bar, an Indian restaurant, a Pan-Asian restaurant and a casual Italian trattoria. Both wings of the building will have their own swimming pool, fitness room and changing area, and each pool will connect to a luxury spa with six individual treatment rooms.
