Responsible for many of Wilton Carpets Commercial‘s striking creations, design manager, Julie Robertson, explores the latest trends in carpet for the sector. This month, Julie discusses the evolution of monochrome.
Once again, designers are championing all things monochromatic, with crisp combinations of black and white in beautiful contemporary designs.
Highly visible on this season’s fashion catwalk, monochromatic geometrics, stripes, polka dots and organics, in a multitude of scales, are already filtering through to interiors – although in more muted contrast to achieve a more practical and usable carpet. Like an old friend that has been brought right up to date, white is replaced with shades of grey, silver and platinum, contrasted with blacks and charcoals to create a dramatic effect.
The palette, which was once seen as austere and corporate, has exploded into fabrics and wallpapers with an amazing array of beautiful shades, textures, luxurious fibres and metallic finishes, and these are now being reflected in a fabulous array of complementary styles.
From simple stripes in corridors, with subtle changes of shades in bedrooms, to checks, grids, hexagons, zigzags, lace details and organics in public areas, these creations work beautifully together to create a striking statement that evokes elegance and works in complete harmony with bright jewel tone accents.
