Wilton Carpets Commercial has become one of the foremost suppliers of carpet for the hospitality industry, with its standard offer and bespoke design service delivering a blend of style, performance and value. Responsible for many of the manufacturer’s striking creations, design manager Julie Robertson explores the latest trends in carpet for the hospitality sector.
Tile effects are proving a strong influence for carpet, with nostalgic overtures using Victorian trellis, Gothic scrolls and Fleur de Lys, and retro styles incorporating hexagons, zigzags and diamonds.
There is a mix-and-match quality to these latest designs, with style and scale both used to full effect in fabulous diamond, hexagonal and grid structures for carpets that have a real patchwork quilt feel.
In terms of tone, subtle and sophisticated contemporary chalks are seen alongside more dramatic combinations such as platinum, silver, petrol, lime and orange. Varying scale alongside pattern is a key theme, with over-scale effects adding a spectacular look to the end result.
Carpet designs have a subtle and reflective quality that contrast well with hard flooring, offering a luxurious feel that provides comfort and absorbs noise and combines with hard flooring areas to create a complete look. This tiled feel can be created using carpet in multiple widths or using an axminster tile, perhaps changing orientation for a random look.
For designers wanting to see how these tile effects work out first hand, the Wilton Carpets Commercial stand at this year’s Sleep event, at the Building Design Centre in November, will showcase this trend with a fabulous design from the creative team at Wilton Carpets.
