Adventurous Journeys (AJ) Capital Partners announced today that it has acquired The Marine Hotel in Troon, Scotland. The 89-key hotel positioned along the Ayrshire Coast will be the third Scottish golf property acquired by AJ Capital. With this acquisition, AJ Capital will launch Marine & Lawn, a collection of high-end golf resorts, opening in 2021. The collection will encompass three properties positioned along the historic Scottish golf coast including Rusacks St Andrews in St Andrews, Scotland; Marine North Berwick in North Berwick, Scotland; and The Marine Hotel in Troon, Scotland.
“We’re thrilled to share the news of the Marine & Lawn Collection, a hand-crafted hospitality experience for travellers embarking upon once-in-a-lifetime visits to the storied Scottish golf coast,” said Ben Weprin, AJ Capital Partners Founder and CEO. “Our background is rooted in restoring iconic community landmarks and creating distinctive spaces for both locals and travellers alike. We are excited to provide memorable destinations that will leave visitors with memories to be cherished for years to come. Whether you’re visiting one property or all three, we look forward to serving as a backdrop for an unforgettable journey.”
Former owners Cannock Group and Stellar Asset Management started renovations to the hotel in spring 2020 and these updates will be continued by AJ Capital beginning in late 2020. Once completed in summer 2021, the reimagined hotel will debut with revitalized guest rooms, two unique food and beverage concepts, expansive meeting and event space and an updated fitness and leisure center with an indoor pool, squash court and sauna and steam facilities. Design throughout The Marine Hotel will take inspiration from Scotland’s rich golf history, complemented with distinct decor that celebrates the hotel’s coastal positioning. Soft hues and rich, natural textures will accentuate architectural elements that nod to the building’s past.
Positioned along the Ayrshire Coast in the seaside town of Troon, The Marine Hotel boasts unobstructed views of the 1st and 18th fairways of Royal Troon’s Old Course, which has played host to nine Open Championships. Home to nearly fifty golf courses, including three Open Championship venues, the Ayrshire Coast sits at the epicenter of the sport’s history, complete with views of some of the most beautiful and historic beaches and tourism destinations that Britain has to offer. Troon is conveniently located 33 miles from Glasgow, Scotland, providing visitors both day trip activities and a variety of transportation options to and from cities throughout the United Kingdom.
“The Ayrshire Coast offers unparalleled golf facilities and we look forward to creating a hospitality experience that complements these best-in-class courses,” said Phillip Allen, AJ Capital Partners Chief Development Officer for International Markets. “The reimagined Marine Hotel will celebrate the history of the coast and the golf excellence that is synonymous with the region, all while providing travellers with a special, hand-crafted stay.”
Marine & Lawn will welcome international leisure travellers to the birthplace of golf, offering an unrivaled hospitality experience and prime access to Scotland’s most prestigious golf courses. Each Marine & Lawn property will establish a unique sense of place for guests, weaving the legends of centuries of golf history into design details throughout each hotel. Rusacks St Andrews overlooks the 18th hole of the Old Course at St Andrews and offers 70 rooms and three food and beverage concepts, including a rooftop bar and restaurant. The 83-room Marine North Berwick will debut with two food and beverage concepts, an expansive spa and fitness centre and 6,000 square feet of meeting and event space.
The Marine & Lawn Collection will join AJ Capital Partners’ growing portfolio of hotels throughout the United Kingdom. AJ Capital additionally owns and operates the Randolph Hotel in Oxford, England and the Cambridge Hotel in Cambridge, England, which are currently undergoing renovations and will reopen as part of the Graduate Hotels® collection in 2021.
