D & D London explores the role of women in the hospitality industry to mark International Women’s Day 2016.
To mark this year’s International Women’s Day on 8th March, restaurant group D & D London are set to release a range of YouTube videos exploring the role and experiences of women in the hospitality industry.
Filmed on 21st February at South Place Hotel, the videos showcase a panel discussion with some of the industry’s key female figures tackling pertinent questions on the role and experience of women working in different areas of the restaurant sector.
Natalia Ribbe, hospitality consultant and founder of the Eighty Six List, led the panel, which included Elizabeth Allen, head chef of Pidgin; Libby Andrews, head of marketing and PR at Pho; Rosie Mira, head of marketing at Hawksmoor Group; Freddie Janssen, marketing manager at Lyle’s restaurant and author of upcoming cookbook ‘Pickled’; Grace Welch, senior manager at Spring and D & D’s very own Liene Alekse-Lielpinka, operations manager at The Royal Exchange; and Guia Sciortino, group PR manager.
During the session, the women shared their thoughts and experiences guided by a set of questions, ranging from the outdated perception that the hospitality industry is a boy’s club to how motherhood and maternity leave creates challenges for women working in the restaurant sector. Each of the videos, set to be released on 8th March, is focused around each one of the five topics explored.
With the dwindling numbers of female chefs a recurrent news story, and at a time in which equality for women in the workplace is a central concern, D & D’s contribution to this year’s International Women’s Day provides an insightful and thought provoking look at the hospitality industry from the perspective of the women on the inside.
