Japanese restaurant brand, YO! Sushi, is celebrating nearly 10 years of one of its popular restaurants – YO! Sushi Selfridges Trafford in Manchester – with a complete rebuild. DGA Architects was in charge of the redesign, which was unveiled at the restaurant’s official reopening last week.
YO! Sushi Selfridges Trafford has been expanded by 40% to seat 85 people. The interior has adopted a rainbow colour scheme in a nod to the restaurant’s bright plates that travel around its renowned Kaiten conveyor belt.
DGA Architects has a long-term working relationship with YO! Sushi, having designed 50 of its restaurants – including the orginal YO! Sushi Selfridges Trafford venue in 2004 – giving each a bespoke design.
“Bringing a fresh twist to each YO! Sushi restaurant is no easy feat,” says Ewan Dryburgh at DGA Architects. “Due to the unique serving concept and the fact that the kitchen is always at front of house, space is one of the biggest obstacles that we have to overcome.
“The latest restaurant in Manchester pays homage to the fashion connections of Selfridges Trafford, helping to keep the overall design timeless while playing on the fun ethos that YO! Sushi has in a bright, colourful and very YO! way.”
