Electric Shuffle, owned and operated by hospitality group Red Engine, has opened its newest site in Manchester. Located on Deansgate, the new bar that combines cocktails, sharing places and high-tech shuffleboard is the brand’s fourth site to open nationwide and the sixth internationally. The first Electric Shuffle opened in London’s Canary Wharf back in 2019.
Located in a former Evans Cycle shop at 201 Deansgate, the Manchester venue has been designed by Red Engine’s in-house interior design team. The main contractors for the project were 3i.
Since the Electric Shuffle concept was first launched, the brand’s look and feel has evolved from quite a high-level concept to a softer, more welcoming neighbourhood bar. A key part of the Electric Shuffle Manchester brief was to ensure that the design captured the essence of Electric Shuffle’s refined brand identity.
The design for Electric Shuffle Manchester took inspiration from several influences, resulting in what Red Engine describes as a retro mash-up: art-deco meets Miami, with subtle industrial vibes. The city of Manchester, with its rich musical heritage and strong media presence, also provided plenty of inspiration for the design team.
Offering a social experience like no other, Electric Shuffle Manchester is the brand’s biggest location, at 11,400 sq. ft. It includes 15 play spaces with a capacity for up to 450 people.
Guests at Electric Shuffle Manchester can expect addictive and high-energy games, semi-private shuffleboard areas dotted around a stylish art-deco-inspired central bar, an impressive cocktail list, and a mouthwatering menu of small plates and sourdough pizza.
Throughout the bar, a palette of mint, pink, green, and deep red gives the site opulent splashes of colour. An art-deco-style central bar is the focal point of the space where Electric Shuffle’s signature spinning neon turbine sits – inspired by old power stations.
Other nods to electricity, power and industry – where Electric Shuffle’s look and feel originally stemmed from – include an interactive control panel that lights up in time with the music and industrial touches such as concrete wall finishes and exposed conduit. The team also commissioned local muralist, Oskar with a K, to create a stunning ‘Electric Power Company.’ mural above one of the bar’s play spaces, making a bold, eye-catching statement as you walk through the venue.
Gold disco glitter balls bring glamour to the space and provide dazzling reflections of light around the venue. Lighting includes a mixture of capiz shell pendants, glass fluted 1920’s style fittings and vintage industrial-feel wall lights.
Manchester’s infamous music and broadcasting scene is also referenced throughout the design. Records, cassettes, and working vintage electronics displaying moving pictures fill every shelf.
Vibrant neon signs adorn the walls, including a Top of the Pops-themed one, and broadcasting paraphernalia such as ‘BBC’ and ‘on air’ lightboxes feature across the venue with nods to the local area, including a ‘Piccadilly Radio’ lightbox.
Electric Shuffle has given the classic game of shuffleboard a high-tech makeover. The supercharged version of the game uses state-of-the-art camera vision technology to track and score every puck, capture guest’s best moments with live shareable replays and can integrate up to 32 players (up to 150 players can at once for corporate events).
Electric Shuffle Manchester opened its doors on 21st June 2024.
