Hilton Worldwide has signed an agreement which will see it rebrand a 389-key hotel within Munich Airport under its flagship Hilton Hotels & Resorts brand. The property is the only hotel with a direct link to the main terminal building, and is the latest addition to the company’s expanding portfolio of hotels at European transport hubs.
Under the new agreement, Hilton will manage the upper-upscale hotel on behalf of its owner, Allresto Flughafen München Hotel und Gaststätten – a wholly-owned subsidiary of Flughafen München – from January 2015. The hotel, which is currently operating as Kempinski Munich Airport Hotel, will undergo a significant renovation and a further 160 rooms will be added to the existing building in 2017.
Once the rebrand is complete, the hotel will be known as Hilton Munich Airport, and offer substantial meetings and conference spaces, alongside a Fit & Fly spa area and a range of food and beverage options.
Rob Palleschi, global head at Hilton Hotels & Resorts, says: “Munich is one of Europe’s busiest airports, with almost 40 million passengers using the airport each year. Hilton pioneered the airport hotel concept – opening the San Francisco Airport Hilton in 1963 – and we are proud to carry on Conrad Hilton’s legacy by opening airport hotels that not only serve business travelers with outstanding business and meeting facilities, but also leisure guests with elevated design and sophisticated amenities.
“We look forward to welcoming Hilton Munich Airport as one of more than 50 airport properties now operating worldwide and the 13th Hilton brand hotel in Germany.”
