The adaptive re-use building was built in the mid-nineteenth century as a candle and soap manufacturing facility and will undergo a meticulous transformation before opening as a full-service boutique hotel later this year. With its captivating design, The Wick is poised shine a light on Hudson for global travelers and local residents – two hours north of New York City and one block from Amtrak station.
“Hudson has become a home away from home for those in the know, and is gaining momentum as a sought-after destination with its indie-spirt and vibrant social scene,” says Julius Robinson, Vice President and Global Brand Lead, Tribute Portfolio.
“The Wick Hotel will be a perfect fit for the Tribute Portfolio brand, both reflecting this eclectic and energetic community and embodying what discerning travelers are seeking today: sincere service and spontaneous independent moments that bring a destination to life.”
With 55 thoughtfully-designed guestrooms, including seven suites, The Wick Hotel will draw upon the building’s heritage throughout the exterior and interior design with details that evoke the spirit of Hudson and honor its industrial candle-making history.
The hotel will also feature an intimate and residential lobby bar and lounge, a conference/meeting room and a rooftop event space boasting breathtaking views of Hudson Valley.
Originally built in the 1860s, the property was a manufacturing hub for key industries of the time: first utilized as a soap and candle factory, then converted to textile manufacturing and later a knitting mill. As a historic preservation project, a nomination to the National and State Historic Registers is underway, ensuring that 41 Cross Street will maintain the architectural integrity of its 150+ year history.
“The Wick team is building strong relationships with our neighbors, the local Hudson and Columbia County communities, as we maintain the Mid-Nineteenth Century roots and historic nature of the property,” explains Tom Rossi, Principal, Redburn Development.
“Tribute Portfolio is the perfect partner as we transform this remarkable Hudson building to an adaptive re-use hotel, and we are confident that our guests will appreciate the spirit of independence while benefitting from Marriott’s award-winning loyalty programs.”
