Hotelympia, one of the UK’s most comprehensive events for the hospitality and foodservice industry, will again host its Design Award alongside the exhibition – which will take place at London’s ExCel from 28th April-1st May.
The Royal Suite at London’s Mandarin Oriental hotel took the top spot in 2012 thanks to its opulent and quintessentially English interior. This year’s awards – in association with GS Magazine – will focus on new hotel designs in the UK, and is open to all properties that have launched since January 2012 – whether new build, rebrand or retrofit.
Hotelympia’s Design Award will be judged by a panel of industry experts, including Steve LaBouchardiere, co-founder of designLSM; Una Barac, director at Scott Brownrigg; and Dennis Irvine, director at Fox Linton Associates. Jan Wilson, managing director at RPW Design – the firm behind 2012’s winning suite – is also part of this year’s judging team.
Stirling Johnstone, head judge and editor at GS Magazine, comments: “In 2012 we laid down the gauntlet, uncovering some of the UK’s most awe-inspiring spaces. Now we are looking for the full package – the new hotel that has style and panache in abundance.
“I’m tremendously excited to have some of the most respected names in the industry to help uncover the UK’s greatest new hotel – I urge hotel operators who think their design fits the bill to get in touch today.”
The three selected finalists will be featured on a dedicated display wall, situated by the Design Stage, at the Hotelympia exhibition. The awards are set to culminate with a presentation and champagne reception.
The closing date for entries is 31st January. Entry forms can be downloaded via the Hotelympia website.
