Situated in the West End, the five-star Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill is celebrated as one of the capital’s finest luxury hotels. The traditional hotel has shown its artistic edge, thanks to a new exhibition in partnership with the prominent London-based Saatchi Gallery.
The third in a series of exhibitions, Burning Bright features a selection of works from Saatchi Online, all of which are available for sale. The exhibition gives the thousands of guests that visit the hotel every week access to work from a range of talented up-and-coming artists – including Daisy Clarke, a previous exhibitor at the Dulwich Picture Gallery and the Royal Academy of Arts, and Geoff Diego Litherland, a winner of Goldsmith College’s prestigious Warden’s Purchase Prize.
The exhibition, which features in the hotel’s public spaces, also includes two key pieces from the Saatchi Gallery’s collection – Ben Mayman’s Praying Mantis and littlewhitehead’s It Happened in the Corner.
In addition, the hotel has collaborated with internationally-renowned Danish design brand, Republic of Fritz Hansen, to create a new Saatchi Suite. The suite displays a selection of work from promising emerging artists, giving guests the chance to experience and purchase contemporary art in a unique surrounding.
Highlights include collages by Kazuya Tsuji, a recent graduate of Chelsea College of Art and Design in London; new paintings by Alex Hanna, who has exhibited at the BP Portrait Award at the National Gallery in London; and Effects of the Earth’s Motions, a wall-based installation by Chantal Powell, who has previously exhibited at the Venice Biennale. In addition, artist Celine Fitoussi has covered the entire bathroom of the suite with a bespoke wall-to-wall soap installation.
The suite will also be furnished with some of Fritz Hansen’s most iconic pieces, specially-curated by celebrated Danish designer, Poul Kjaerholm – whose sophisticated furniture currently graces the Museum of Modern Art, New York, among other notable landmarks.
On display will be some of Poul’s most recognisable designs, including the PK80 daybed, the PK22 lounge chair and the PK9 dining chair. The exclusive Lissoni Sofa by Piero Lissoni, in upholstery textile Point by Paul Smith, will also be on display. The space will be lit by a collection of lamps from the Kaiser idell lighting collection, which became part of Fritz Hansen’s main collection in 2010. All furniture is also available for purchase.
Visitors will be able to stay in the Saatchi Suite from now until the end of January 2014. To book the room, readers should contact the hotel directly.
