Visit Material Lab‘s stand at Clerkenwell Design Week (20-22 May) and you’re guaranteed to find quality design. That’s because the London-based design resource studio is not just focusing on the products, but the benefits that come with using established designers around the theme of Foundation, Fundamentals and Form.
All of Material Lab’s partners chosen to take part in Clerkenwell Design Week – Johnson Tiles, Karndean Designflooring, modulyss, Dulux Trade and Tektura Wallcoverings – are core, fundamental manufacturers offering the ultimate foundation in practical and design-led solutions, backed by long-established design heritage, history and guarantees of quality.
Reflecting these qualities in the stand’s design is the challenge facing London design house Here You Are Studio, which will be creating a unique concept for Material Lab at Clerkenwell Design Week based around ‘terra firma’ – showing that all of the brand partners at Material Lab’s stand are on true, safe ground when it comes to creative design.
The stand will be an intriguing mountainous-style terrain created using a mixture of materials including Oriented Strand Board (OSB), which features clever layering and blending of slices of FSC-certified conifer wood for a solid stand scheme with a focus on a natural, earthy palette.
“Getting the basics right is fundamental to innovative design, all of our partners taking part in our stand this year are not just established brands but visionaries within in their industries,” says Jim Biddulph, Projects and Materials Manager at Material Lab. “We wanted to focus on these qualities – not just on products but the heritage which has helped to shape and create these products. It’s going to be a visually-exciting experience this year as we aim to take things back to the core ‘beginning’ of design with our terra-firma stand.”
