The first National Waiters Day celebrated a successful premier yesterday, as the UK hospitality industry came together to honour the dedication of its front of house staff. The initiative was created by Fred Sirieix – general manager of Galvin at Windows, London – and backed by industry charity, Springboard.
The day aimed to emphasise the hospitality sector’s ability to offer rewarding career paths – dispelling the myth that service is an unskilled job option. A range of businesses – including Hilton Birmingham Metropole, New Street Grill, Fortnum & Mason, Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons and The Jolly Cricketers at Seer Green – took part in events to celebrate its front of house staff, and a National Waiters Race took place in the capital.
