Renowned hospitality designer Paul Basile has opened a new art and design gallery, entitled basileIE, in the artistic hub of Barrio Logan, San Diego. The gallery is housed within a 6000 square foot mixed-use warehouse, and is part of an intiative from Paul and local contemporary artist, Chris Martino, entitled ‘The Barrio Logan Design Guild’.
Before prolific Southern California design ace and craftsman, Paul Basile, became recognised industry-wide for his hospitality and commercial architectural showstoppers, he in fact made ends meet as a struggling art gallery owner.
A construction foreman by day and furniture craftsman by night, Paul worked tirelessly as he raised capital to open doors to his first venture in 1995, Basile Gallery, in downtown San Diego. For nearly 12 years the design commune was a vehicle for Paul to sell his custom creations as he built his repertoire as a respected designer, as well as a sanctuary for local artists and craftsman to showcase their work.
Now, in a bold move to return to his innate creative passions, Basile has opened doors to his new art and design gallery, basileIE (ideas + experiments).
“Now is the time for Barrio Logan,” he says. “It’s on the precipice of becoming one of the nation’s most alluring arts and culture districts – there is so much talent here. “basileIE will be an opportunity to feature some of San Diego’s undiscovered and underrepresented artists, and will also be an outlet for me and my team to showcase our creative impulses outside our daily studio work.”
