Conceptualised by James and Louise Rusk, the duo behind RUSK & RUSK, the 150-cover bar and restaurant on Mitchell Street is the group’s most ambitious project yet and the first of the collection to open in the heart of Glasgow City Centre. The new addition will see the group’s employee headcount top 200 for the very first time since launching in 2010.
“We founded RUSK & RUSK in Glasgow because we love the city and we are committed to creating amazing spaces with global appeal,” says Louise Rusk, co-owner of RUSK & RUSK. “Our investment in Mitchell Street is a continuation of our commitment to the city and its economy. At RUSK & RUSK, we are deeply committed to bringing the best, progressive cuisine and cutting-edge spaces to Scotland – and we believe So L.A. delivers on both of these things in a big way.”
James Rusk adds, “With a Glasgow staff count now topping 200, So L.A. will see us further invest in team training and continue to create jobs with clear and open progression routes. We pride ourselves on creating destination restaurants that are inspiring to dine and work in, a hallmark of RUSK & RUSK venues.”
He continued, “California has always been a real pioneer when it comes to the culinary arts- from its extraordinary use of fresh produce to its fun and atmospheric interiors. So L.A. is a new concept that channels all of this and pushes the boundaries of our current offering. We are incredibly excited to open the doors to So L.A. and cannot wait to welcome the first of our guests over the coming days.”
The venue boasts an inclusive and highly inventive menu, which will appeal to meat lovers, vegetarians and vegans alike. Diners can expect bold flavour combinations that celebrate the eclectic cultures and cuisines known for influencing the Californian dining scene; with signature dishes including, Sautéed Chickpea Panisse, Street Corn and Miso Glazed Beef Fillet.
Carefully considered lighting and sound systems add the finishing touches to the downtown L.A. atmosphere. Hidden beneath the bar and restaurant, customers will find The White Box – a spectacular, subterranean urban garden designed for private functions.
The clear love of flavour and craft also spills over to the drinks menu; from the show stopping cocktail menu, to the Tequila Map and California cellar selection, these all combine to make the bar a destination in its own right.
The restaurant space is designed for both small and group gatherings and features leather booths, intimate dining tables and a 25-foot concrete-topped, fluted teak bar.
