The awards honoured the achievements of venues, attractions, hotels and service providers working in the tourism industry in 14 categories. The multi-million pound hotel was praised by judges for “its contribution to the visitor economy, the sense of home away from home which guests feel, care access, environmental awareness and national and international presence within the market during 2012 Olympics.”
The four-star, 170-bedroom hotel and Shark Club gastro bar opened on the site of the former Scottish and Newcastle Brewery over a year ago and will now compete against winners from other UK regions in the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence in 2013.
General manager, Paul Smith, comments: “We are delighted to win this award, which recognises the part we have played in attracting leisure and corporate visitors to the region. The award acknowledges the hard work, commitment and pride which the staff and management have channeled into the hotel since the opening of the property.”
