Nestled on the side of a mountain inside the Catskills Forest Preserve, Urban Cowboy Lodge is a new 68-acre wilderness retreat from hoteliers Lyon Porter, Jersey Banks, and Phil Hospod.
Only 2.5-hours from New York City, The Lodge sits on the headwaters of the Esopus Creek, overlooking the expansive mountain terrain, and offering easy-access to hiking, ski mountains, and fly fishing.
Blending Hospod’s experience in large-scale lifestyle hotel development and Porter’s expertise in intimate hospitality and design, the duo have transformed 28 guest rooms, a freestanding cabin, and a standalone chalet – all surrounding the Grand Lodge that houses a cocktail bar and holistic restaurant by the acclaimed Executive Chef Tara Norvell.
‘The Dining Room’, the onsite restaurant, will offer fresh and locally sourced products for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a goal of zero-waste. With an emphasis on elemental experiences, each guest room offers a private outdoor deck with the sound of the rivers and many feature fireplaces and in-room copper or cedar soaking tubs.
Multiple private and communal bonfires burn bright each night and one can hide from the cold within the Lodge’s one- of-a-kind shingled Estonian Sauna. Come Spring, an outdoor live-fire kitchen pops up to serve whole grilled fish and game.
Warm weather brings the launch of Urban Cowboy Lodge’s spa, hot tub, and outdoor pool, as well as luxury tented accommodations along the stream.
